Saint Crispin's Handmade Shoes: A Rare Craft Now Available at Original Luxury
We have exciting news for lovers of genuine luxury footwear: the Saint Crispin's collection has officially arrived at Original Luxury. For those already familiar with the name — you know what this means. For everyone else, allow us to make a proper introduction.
The Story Behind Saint Crispin's
Saint Crispin's is not a brand you encounter at the shopping mall. Founded in Austria in 1992, the brand draws its name from the patron saint of shoemakers — and it takes that heritage seriously. The workshop is located in Brașov, Romania, a city in Transylvania with an unbroken shoemaking tradition dating back to 1463. Unlike most of Europe, where industrialisation swept away the old crafts, this region preserved the skills and techniques that define true bespoke footwear.
Today, a team of 25 to 28 master artisans produces approximately 1,500 pairs of shoes per year. That number is not a marketing talking point — it is a structural limitation. At least 95% of every shoe is made entirely by hand, including the hand-welted construction where the sole is sewn with linen thread. The brand does not use Goodyear welting machines, Blake construction, or any form of cemented sole. Even the shoe trees are hollowed and sanded by hand.

What Saint Crispin's Makes
The collection centres on timeless classic silhouettes:
• Oxfords — closed-lacing, impeccable structure, the definitive formal shoe
• Derbys — open-lacing with a slightly more relaxed character, equally elegant
• Loafers — slip-on luxury built with the same uncompromising construction
Materials are sourced from Europe's most respected tanneries — shell cordovan, museum calf, hand-burnished leathers in rich patinas. Each pair is resoleable, meaning with proper care it will outlast most things in your wardrobe by decades.
Now Available in Canada — Exclusively at Original Luxury
We are proud to announce that the Saint Crispin's collection is now available through Original Luxury, one of the very few Canadian retailers authorised to carry this brand. This is not a wide release — Saint Crispin's does not seek mass distribution, and neither do we. What we are offering is access to a small, carefully selected range of styles, available while stock lasts.
These are investment pieces. Prices reflect not a brand name, but hundreds of hours of skilled hand labour, the finest European leathers, and a construction that was designed to last a lifetime.
Why Saint Crispin's Stands Apart
There are many brands that claim the word "luxury." Few of them mean it the way Saint Crispin's does. Here is what sets them apart:
• Genuinely handcrafted — 95%+ hand work, no machine shortcuts
• Extremely limited production — ~1,500 pairs per year, worldwide
• Traditional hand-welt construction — the most durable and repairable method available
• Rooted in real heritage — a Transylvanian shoemaking tradition stretching back over 500 years
• Niche, not mainstream — not found in department stores, not promoted with celebrity endorsements
For the collector, the connoisseur, or simply someone who has decided it is time to own a truly exceptional pair of shoes.
