Santoni Shoe Sizing: Do Santoni Run True to Size?

Santoni shoes are made by hand in Corridonia, in Italy's Marche region, and a good pair will last for many years. Most sizing mistakes with Santoni come from one detail: the number on the box is a UK size, not a Canadian one.

Watch out for EU numbers. Santoni's EU column runs higher than many brands. Santoni UK 8 is EU 43, while Kiton maps the same UK 8 to EU 42 (see our Kiton sizing guide). If you know yourself as "a 43", check which brand that came from. Then buy by UK size or by centimetres, never by the EU number alone.

How to measure your foot in 2 minutes

1. Tape a sheet of paper to the floor against a wall.

2. Stand on it in thin socks, heel touching the wall.

3. Mark the tip of your longest toe and measure in centimetres.

4. Measure both feet and use the longer one.

5. Find the closest number in the "foot length" column above.

Do Santoni shoes run true to size?

Santoni's own answer is yes. Its FAQ says the shoes offer "an ideal fit" and that trainers are "slightly softer than our formal styles" while staying true to size.

Owners are more mixed. On Styleforum, one longtime buyer says fit varies between Santoni lines. He wears a US 9 in Santoni's Goodyear-welted shoes against a US 10.5 in Allen Edmonds, and goes 0.5–1 size down in another line. Another owner finds Santoni sneakers "on the roomy side".

The reason is the last. Each model is built on a different wooden form, so a penny loafer and a double monk in the same size will not feel identical. Our advice:

• First Santoni pair: start with your foot length in centimetres, not your usual size.

• Between two sizes in dress shoes and loafers: try the smaller one first.

• Between two sizes in sneakers and boots: take the larger one, especially for winter socks.

How do Santoni loafers fit?

Loafers have no laces, so the shoe itself must hold your foot. A new Santoni loafer should feel snug across the instep and the widest part of the foot, with your toes free to move.

Should loafers be tight at first? Snug, yes. Painful, no. Leather loafers stretch a little in width as they mould to your foot, but they never stretch in length. Suede gives a little more than polished calf.

How do Santoni boots fit?

Boots are worn with heavier socks in a Canadian winter, so leave a little more room. Take your true size. For Chelsea boots, the elastic side panels need a firm hold at the ankle, so don't go up a size just for comfort. Lace-up boots let you adjust, so a half size up is fine if you are between sizes.

How do Santoni dress shoes fit?
